Recently, Nanjing Huayide Logistics Technology Co., Ltd provided a pallet-type four way shuttle system solution for AkzoNobel Group, a leading company in the chemical industry, at its Hanoi factory in Vietnam. As AkzoNobel’s demonstration factory in Southeast Asia, the completion of the automated high-rise warehouse is an important milestone for it. After it is officially put into production, it will further promote the implementation of AkzoNobel’s important strategy of INDUSTRY 4.0 GLOBALIZATION and help it realize its DOUBLING PLAN as soon as possible.

After the two parties reached a strategic cooperation, HUAYIDE Logistics Technology and AkzoNobel had several rounds of negotiations to understand the needs, and conducted a multi-dimensional system analysis on the positioning of the Hanoi project in Vietnam and its industry characteristics, application scenarios, product characteristics, etc., and carried out overall planning, design, and implementation of the project. Finally, a pallet type four-way shuttle system solution was adopted to improve productivity and efficiency. This will help AkzoNobel achieve its goal of halving its carbon emissions by 2030.

This project uses a pallet type four-way shuttle intensive storage system to store goods. One is a common warehouse for storing and retrieving powder raw materials and finished products. The other is an explosion-proof warehouse for storing and retrieving solvent-based paint raw materials and finished products.
The general warehouse is about 37m long, 27m wide, and 26m high. It contains 3,204 effective pallet positions, 4 pallet type four-way shuttles and 2 reciprocating lifters, and cooperates with the production line to achieve 24-hour unmanned operation.
The explosion-proof warehouse is about 32m long, 23m wide, and 28m high. It contains 3052 effective pallet positions, 4 explosion-proof pallet four-way shuttles and 2 explosion-proof reciprocating elevators, which can be used with the production line to achieve 24-hour unmanned operation.
Automated warehouses use various pallet conveying systems such as roller conveyors and chain conveyors to meet business processes such as automatic inventory, abnormal warehousing and warehousing, empty pallets on pallets, and pallet removal to the production line. Pallet-type four-way shuttles can operate multiple units on the same floor, with a maximum efficiency of more than 60 pallets per hour. A set of WMS and WCS software systems are planned.
Project Highlights
In the process of processing, using, loading and unloading, and storing flammable and explosive dangerous goods, equipment that has not been explosion-proofed may cause serious safety accidents due to the generation of ignition sources or static electricity during operation. Therefore, for solvent automated storage equipment working in potentially dangerous environments, reasonable explosion-proof zoning and explosion-proof treatment should be adopted. In this project, HUAYIDE Logistics Technology carried out high-standard explosion-proof modification and safety design on the four-way vehicle, allowing it to travel safely on the way of transportation.
- Sealing and protection design
The conveyor is made of 316L stainless steel with mirror-polished inner wall. At the same time, key components such as motor housing, conveyor and elevator are sealed and protected to prevent corrosive liquids from volatilizing and entering the equipment, which will affect the service life and potential risks such as short circuit. - Preventing sparks
Conveyors, elevators and four-way shuttle throughout the warehouse use explosion-proof motors and explosion-proof switches to avoid electric sparks during operation, thereby preventing the occurrence of explosion accidents. - Anti-static
Equipped with static elimination device to prevent explosion caused by static electricity accumulation. - Non-sparking materials
Key parts such as the shuttle body and tooling are made of spark-free materials to reduce the risk of sparks caused by mechanical friction. - High reliability
The explosion-proof four-way vehicle has passed strict explosion-proof certification (NEPSI’s II 2G Ex db IIC T6 Gb), has high reliability and durability, and is suitable for long-term use in high-risk environments.
